The course will run for a total of eighteen hours, with an additional several hours of practice in the classroom.

Day 1. This first day will be a general introduction to philosophy with children. Emphasis will be on the nature of philosophical inquiry, on concept development, questioning and on the crucial pedagogical practice of the community of inquiry.

Day 2. Emphasis will be on the materials available and some of the practical activities we can use to create a community of philosophical inquiry in the classroom.

Day 3. If you wish to receive Level One Certification  you will need to complete this additional day which consolidates your experience of introducing philosophy into the classroom, providing you with opportunity to conduct your own brief COI; and to  develop some assessment tools

Workshop certificates:

VAPS is committed to the view that philosophy can be practised in the classroom by teachers with no formal background in philosophy. But we also think that without adequate training the chances of success are poor. Level One Certificates will therefore be available only to people who complete the full eighteen hours of the workshop, and successfully complete a report regarding their classroom practice.  IF you choose to do the two day introduction you will receive a Certificate of Attendance and may choose to continue your training at a later stage.
